Let's see - I'm viewer #62 to this thread and still no replies, so I'm gonna go out on a limb and declare that you've got us stumped....for now!

Looks kinda interesting. Now you've got my curiosity up as well.

Looks like a piece broke off the top. At first I thought the top of a cheap antique door knocker but the more I look at it something that was a decorative piece on a hanging lamp maybe....

Definitely a piece missing.

Yes, a piece broke off the top.

What makes you think this is copper ?

I know this item... just cannot remember what it is... :P

long weekend.

Could it be some sort of hinge?

That is brass , looks like part of a trigger guard.
It has same attachment tab as trigger guard.

Trigger guard?!?!? From what kind of firearm?

Also possibly the top tang of a butt-plate.

If its a trigger guard, how would I find out what type of gun it came from?

Reminds me of a hinge off of a chest.

More pics.

What gets me is, the piece has very sharp-detailed edges on the facing part, yet the rear part seems worn. And where a pin(?) goes through looks rough.

I simply do not have a clue!!
