DOES THE EXCAL HAVE AN ADVANTAGE OVER THE ETRAC AT THE SALT BEACH

Im getting a sovereign GT, and going to waterproof it. Or incase it when going waste level. My question is....

Where do you guys find most of the rings/gold/silver and such? I hunt Delaware and Maryland beaches and it seems when the tide is low, and the waves are comming in and out you can see a slew of shells spinning and slushing around. Its like there is a pocket. Trying to explain where this is....... when the wave goes back out to sea after comming in, its the lowest, shallowest part before it fills back up with another wave. Make sense? Like the shells are holding in that area..... like a troff. I figure if all those shells are holding there, then other stuff could too.

Thanks

I went hunting 2.5 hours before low tide at beach yesterday, found 2 stainless steel rings and 1 small gold ring, all three were in the wet sand with the water rushing in and retreating over them, all 3 were about 8-10 inches deep.....I hunted in the surf for about 1.5 hours but found nothing so I moved to the wet sand, where I was hunting would have been waist to chest deep at high tide..

Hey Guys,

I own both machines as well and hunt with both of them depending on the situation. The Etrac is a great machine on the beach especially in a nice trashy beach. The ability to discriminate is amazing and lets not for get the recovery speed. The machine performs well in the wet sand as well and will pick up the gold at a good depth. However the Excal with the proper settings can be a depth monster at the beach. I usually can pick up items at 15 inches with ease with it and it cuts through rings and coins with little effort. The only con is on a trashy beach you will spend lots of time digging trash due to the tones and the lack of discrimination on the machine. Dont get me wrong on an open beach especially when the tides out or in the Excal is my choice but on a dry sand/wet sand trashy beach especially where fishing weights and screw tops are plentiful I find myself reaching for the very lightweight ETRAC. Overall the etrac is fine if your not jumping in the water but I know its a hassle when worrying about dropping in only a inch of water, its not worth losing a 1600 dollar machine when you can get a nice used Excal for around 600. Dish out the cash to find the good stuff and you wont be sorry.

CB, have you tried an Excal with the WOT or S-12 spliced on it yet.....

I found the Platinum band in my avitar with my ETrac in the dry sand. Thats a $600 find. I use the ET in both wet/dry saltwater beaches. My beaches here do not have the pounding surf that others have.

Once i make enough find with the ET to cash in "shouldnt take long" im going to buy an Excal.

I used to own an E-trac but found that there are more higher priced finds in the water. Water hunting for me is where it is at. I made more with two finds (gold and diamond rings) than almost a year of hunting land with the E-trac. I was able to pay for my Excalibur in two days.

I kind of gave up on land hunting but do occasionally hunt land with the Excalibur II 1000. I have found it works just as well on the land as the E-trac except that the E-trac does have the plus of being able to discriminate out certain things like pull tabs. Those pull tabs sound a lot like rings on the Excalibur and I dig a lot of tabs. I do hunt in pin point 95% of the time and switch to discriminate to see if the target is worthwhile.

The advantage with the Excalibur in the salt sand and water is it is a water machine. No worries about getting it wet. And the BBS seems to work better in the wet sand than the FBS of the E-trac. Seems to be more stable and deeper to me. That is just my opinion.

I have found that the Excalibur is a great multi purpose machine that can hunt with the best of them almost everywhere.

Yep, you can hunt from 200 foot deep to the dry sand if you want, no worries with the iron and clean up is real easy on the Excal, just throw it in the shower or in a bathtub..... :icon_thumright:

I think I could rephrase your question to say;

Does Minelab FBS technology work better than their BBS technology in wet saltwater sand?

I would think so but never actually done a side by side comparison.
Maybe the Excal III will run FBS?
The FBS is no better than the BBS,

One of the things i think the ET has over the Excal/Sov is speed. At my beaches there is allot of competition. There are several guys who are retired that hit these beaches every day.

I have been reading Andy S. book over the winter. I implemented his settings and gold method this year for the ET. Ive done very well !

The shear fact that you can run a higher discrimination means i don't have to dig the non gold items. The ET is able to find a good signal in a solid null. Not to mention a faster sweep speed and recovery. I still dig the tabs and trash that ring in around the gold signals. That's just part of the game. I do believe with enough time and with the proper settings. I can come "close" to tell the difference between pull tabs and gold rings.

The Excal is water proof and its a Minelab. I will have one when the become available. This last Sunday i found the 11g Platinum ring. And this last Wed i scored the 24k channel diamond ring with the ET. That's enough right here to cash in and by an Excal.
