Mine said,What are you looking for gold?
How can you sit there and check all of them dates?
I say no gold in this box can you bring me some more boxes home tomorrow??

Yes. She also was calling me addicted to it long before I found this website, lol. Oh well, if your going to be addicted to something this is better than most as the side effects aren't too bad (other than sleep deprivation, but since I would have that anyway not a big deal.)

She thinks what's the big deal? a nickel is a nickel, etc.

She won't get coins for me either, makes me do it all myself. Though my parents have been more supportive and gotten boxes from other areas of the counrty and carried them back for me to look through.

The thing is this is a win-win proposition. Where else can you do something that GUARANTEES positive returns with NO down side (your coins will never be worth less than the face value you paid for it, other than the occasional foreign coin).

That is along the lines of reasoning I have said to my wife. She tolerates it only because it does not cost anything to do and she knows I enjoy doing it.

Saturday I told her I now have over $450 of "silver value". I was thinking that this might show her that it was a worthwhile hobby. She said I would have made more money getting a second job at McDonalds, this is true, but that is WORK (as Meynard G. Krebbs used to say. see how old I am?) She also tolerates my metal detecting because it gets me out of the house.

No but my HUSBAND does !!!! He keeps asking have I got it out of my system yet. He and my son CRING everytime I pay for something with halves .I have tried to use the its not costing me anything and I enjoy it line also but doesn't help.He wont go metal detecting either !!!!

Mine just thinks it is funny, but she is enough of a pragmatist to know that it could be worse, like me having a gambling addiction...the way she puts it is like this:

My Wife keeps bugging me to get another box so we can search them over.She sits there with me and we go throught them together.She tells me to get them done so we can dump the discarded ones and get a new box...


AND THEY CALL ME CRAZY!!!

My wife is finding more silver than me!! And now whenever we get out of the truck in a parking lot she finds money. A dollar bill at the school we walk the dog at last week, and two dimes during a bank run yesterday. She will get to the teller first just to ask for halves. I should get her to read this forum for more tips. She also likes to swing the metal detector and dig for treasure.
(both of us are mid fifties and retired)
