I have never found a dog tag, but there is a group that tracks the old ones, pretty interesting.

Congratualtions on the dog tag find, they are always interesting and fun to find!

Doc

I hve found dozens as I hunt trails and tracks where folks walk their dogs. Like you, nearly all of the people I call don't want them back! Many have said their pets passed away since losing the tags... Happy Hunting, Sub 8-)

I probably recover 10 to 20 tags a year
I really like the older ones. What is the life expectancy of most dogs these days??

This one has to be less then a year old the dogs owner said they lost it a while ago

If my pet has passed away and a metel dector found my dogs long lost tag I would love to have it back

Got a few modern tags from permissions, owners especially thrilled if their friend had passed. Well, you got a keeper!

Like beerguy, I'm still looking for one...........
They represent a unique find (for me). Congrats on yours and kudos for attempting the return!

Its funny that the owner basically gave you a green light to throw it away, but as treasure hunters we put them into a display case proud to show them off ! At least thats what I have done with all of the ones I have ever dug.

Good for you for calling. Like another poster said, if that dog passed away, it would mean a lot to that family.

I found one just like it...shape and color...but it said, "FLETCHER". I never called the number though.
