Hi Eugene, I found an old dog tag on the beach at Chakas Rock, South Africa which reads "Madison County, No 1603, Registered Dog, 1921"
It is printed on a "looks like copper or brass - very faded oblong disc with 2 holes, found hanging on a leather necklace. What do you think?
Have a great day and God bless.hugapug

I hAve quite a few I have found, oldest is 1919,

Do you post on portland Craigslist? I always see a guy asking if anyone metal detects dog tags for him to buy! If you aren't him you should find one of his ads and do some show and tell trading!

I wish cats had cool old tags for me to collects! (Cat person)

Hugapug! I also found the same dog tag on a beach in San Diego California. "Madison County, No 1603, Registered Dog, 1921" Huh... Weird...

I actually found one yesterday, not that old but you're welcome to it if you want to give me an address.

Took a pic if it's of interest.

I sold a few about twenty years ago, a 1917, and a 1919 both from small towns in Utah. I wish I would have kept them now, but I did get $75 a piece for them, so I guess I didn't do too bad.

All of mine I dug up, and the oldest one is only 1946, so probably not what you are looking to trade for, but fun to have a reason to show them!

I believe it is as he states that he is a metal detector and will trade for silver coins. I've looked and he's posted on many citys in the us

Very cool collection !

I just found a dog tag, Madison county no1603
Registered dog 1921 in Youngsville, PA 16371
It appears to be made out of a soft metal like lead or pewter.
Are these worth anything?

My oldest one dug. I dug one once that was in the shape of a dog itself, 1920 something, gave it to my sister in law for xmass( hard core dog person) Thanks for posting another one in the shape of the year, was wondering if there were more

Ive got a dozen or so. Few different states also

I love dog tax tags and dog tax tags!

I will trade silver coins for dog tags (NOT military ID tags)!

Nice! I've got 3 from 1920 to 1960 detecting this year (so far, 2019)

I have some from Mi any years in particular. Tommy
