When it comes to nickels, I keep the War nicks obviously, the buffalos and whatnot, and anything pre 1960. The oldest Ive found was a 1913 type one in good condition. The date was full but very faded. Ive found about 15-16 War nickels and even have a 1942 P but the odd thing is, I have no mint mark but P for everything. Hoping for an S or even a D sometime. The last 2 nickel boxes I did werent brinks and didnt contain a single buffalo date or no date and only had one extremely worn 1943 P. I have a lot of good luck with Brinks cents and nickel boxes but when it comes to halves and dimes they are notorious for being lackluster in terms of yielding silver versus loomis and whatnot. Though a few days ago the brinks dime box had a 54' D, a 56' and a 64 so 3 silvers in one box is great but Im rambling. I dont know if Ill have pics or not but yall will know my finds in some way shape or form.

Why do you keep the pre '60? Just curious. I've thinned my herd to pre '41 (of course I keep the war nickels and any key dates).

Eh, a lot of people keep pre 60. I dont exactly know why I keep them but I have well over 500 in a jar. All my war nicks and buffalos with a legible date go in a 2x2 case, as well as the one proof I found (2002 S) and a 38 philly in AU condition. The rest go in a jar. I keep 2009 nickels as well.

26 keepers came from the box. Twenty four 59' and before, and two 2009s. That makes my last 3 boxes "Buffaloless".

I was skunked with my last nickel box I got last wknd too. I just found 31 pre-'60's, 4 x '09's and 8 x '14's which were the first 2014 coins I've found this year. I've searched just over $2000 in nickels so far this year and I've found 18 wars and 10 buffalos so I can't complain. But hopefully we'll both have better luck next time.

The way I see it, the pre '60 nickels are way too common. Sure they are over 50 years old, but I can amass hundreds within a short time.
They will be just as easy to find 20 years from now.

I used to keep the pre 60's but they pile up fast and eventually I released them all back into the wild.
