Don't find teen wheats often out here in the west but...

I got a 1912-S in EF condition today.. I looked in a 1984 redbook that I have and it listed it at $38.00. Don't know what today's prices would be. This one is completely problem free. To this date, I've only found 4 wheats in the teens out here but they've all been "S" mints. This was the one in the best condition.. sorry no photos.. since it's a bit of extra work to post it. Gotta trust me.

To this date, I've found 1912-S EF, 1915-S damaged by scissors, 1917-S F, & 1919-S F. This hobby is great when you find new ones to fill the folders. Maybe one day, I'll get a 1909-S VDB?

Nice! My Warman's 3rd Edition Field Guide has it listed VF $40.00.

Nice find SF! :icon_thumleft: Do you search cents by hand or use one of those ryedales(spelling)?

Congrats SFBayArea. I know you have been searching those cents for a long while. In my part of Texas, I rarely find the teens' as well. Mostly those 40s and 50s with occasional 30s thrown in for good measure. I did find a bent IH once. Still looking for more of those (unbent). :laughing7:

1909s vdb is nice but 1969s-ddr is even better.

Thanks Apush for always being so supportive.. keep searching and you'll find something. I remember some board member here found a 1931-S key date wheat and he's in Texas too.. the finds are out there. Congrats on your half dollar semi-dream box.

I have a Ryedale and it helps a little but the issue out here is that no banks have coin counters. So if I want immediate cash for dumps, I have to have the coins rolled which forces me to sort the zincolns regardless. In using the Ryedale, all of the wheats in the teens that I have found were in the zincoln pile which forces me to search the zincoln pile regardless. I spend the majority of my time rolling the zincolns for dumping or spending. Regardless of Ryedale or not, I end up reviewing all cents anyhow visually.

I would say if you have banks in your area with coin counters, then go get a Ryedale. If not, hand sorting will have to do.
