Don't have a clue what this is?

First things first....check out my Metal Detecting Artwork and Shirts I have for sale at this link:
http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,201633.msg1429918.html#msg1429918

This thing is made from really heavy metal and has a little scoop like device coming out of one end. What in the world is this thing?

Thanks all.....be sure to check out my shirts and prints linked above.

Re: Don't have a clue what this is?

Possibly a pencile sharpener similar to this one? http://www.dickblick.com/zz214/20/

the rusted part is where the blade used to be, almost looks like part of a screw stub remaining on the larger end, the protrusion may be where a decorative piece was added on for extra design flair.

Still searching for picture ID, and maybe find some other use for it.

it is a brass pencil sharpener. i have one in my tool belt just like it. the reason there is rust only on one side is because that is where the steel blade was.

:icon_pirat: Looks like part of a swag compression fitting for attaching a cable to a turnbuckle or lifeline stansion. Just a s.w.a.g. from a former sailboater.

Re: Don't have a clue what this is?

It's the breech end of an autoloading pistol barrel. It is of the Browning design with the locking breech as in a .45 ACP Colt pistol. The little shoveled out projection is the feed ramp. The gnurled lugs unlock from the slide as it is pulled back and the recoil spring forces the slide forward when released. This in turn allows the barrel to drop into battery and lock up. Monty
