Don't practice with small objects.
The mistake i've made in the past myself was to practice with an object to small for adaquate Dowsable strength, for the rods i'm practicing with..
A Gold ring, or even a single coin omits a weak Dowsable signal. Unless your using swival rods, or real fine sensative rods, and standing close to your target, you won't be able to Dowse a connection line. If your going to practice use a large target like a copper pot or something..I have found Steel does not signal the same strength as iron, and Stainless steel doesn't create connection lines, and also blocks the signal strength of the base material underneath. Galvanized stuff does connect with Nickle, and if you have any blue bottles made of cobalt, it is possible to locate other cobalt bottles.. And if you practice with lead use Downrigging cannon balls, for optimum signal strength.
