It kind of looks colonial but the area wasn’t settled until 1860. I’m not even 100% sure what to call it knee buckle? Some sort of very small belt buckle? Anybody help me out?

I hadn’t noticed the pat date before. I may see if I can’t tease it out with a gentle cleaning. Thanks for the suggestions

I just don’t know, it’s just on the edge of being legible, If I had to guess I’d say there’s a 4 in there

I’d say that’s it, appreciate the help mystery solved, unfortunately it doesn’t appear I can mark old threads as solved… I’m curious do you have any more information about it? Who made it, what exactly is it? Where did yours come from? I didn’t expect the ring and that inside bit, I just assumed a button slid in the slot, but I guess I’m not all that familiar with suspenders
