Hello all fellow diggers. Time for another post of some finds given up by Mother Earth. Set out to enjoy a day of digging not knowing what exactly to expect. Thought for sure that this was a very iffy type pit. If it were a pit at all. Felt like a few bricks and hard ground with just one area where there might be some ash and debris at about 5 feet. We were not enthusiastic about it but like we always say “ Might as well mark it off the list.”

So we started out with a nice layer of dark dirt with some sand that was pretty hard. We busted through a small cap and boom, straight into a full blown coal ash dump. Not what we like to see usually but we had to see what was below. Around 4-5 feet we finally started to see some glass. Crazy that we didn’t feel the glass when probing on this one. I guess it was because the bottles were whole or nearly whole. A few plates and sauce bottles showed up with the usual smashed fruit jars. Then in the deep corner it opened up to a nice use layer. The insitu photos really show how they were stacked in the pit. Got a couple fairly common quart aqua beers. Then a nice amber blob beer. Not far from that was it’s twin. Sweet, the first twofer of the day! Then Don got in the pit and pulled out a super crude Warner’s Safe Cure. Low and behold another one was right close by. Two different tops on these two. Nice. Pulled out a Hagans Magnolia Balm, another pint blob beer and some odds and ends. Got done with this pit and probed to the side and wouldn’t ya know it, another smaller pit next door. It’s twin! Another twofer. Ha ha. Dug into the side of it and it was clearly older. Two Poor Mans Family Bitters soon showed ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1571606605.250380.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1571606619.630244.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1571606630.504859.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1571606651.393368.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1571606663.403088.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1571606675.869077.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1571606688.752227.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1571606703.509467.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1571606714.876092.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1571606725.841930.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1571606738.733111.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1571606758.192182.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1571606771.956240.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1571606783.022609.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1571606794.571812.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1571606820.662404.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1571606829.495211.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1571606841.661365.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1571606851.294439.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1571606882.367852.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1571606892.908908.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1571606920.174433.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1571606929.582886.webptheir faces after a 130 year slumber. A ton of unembossed meds and some small Shiloh samples arrived on scene too. Cool little side by side pits. Always poke to the side and down while you are finishing up. It payed off once again here. Hope you enjoy the pics as much as we enjoyed a day in the pits!!! Stay safe out there folks. Happy Digging. Jgas.
