This little guy showed up in my screen while sifting at a midden site where pottery and tools were also found. I had not come across any beads in this area so this was maybe a surprise. Do you all think it was a bead at one time or at least an attempt at making one? Central west coast of fl. Thanks for lookin

Looks like it may be a bead but I have no idea what the material is.

Sure looks like one. Strange how it fractured along the narrow side.

Kinda looks like amber!

What would have been the hole doesn't look drilled. Any chance it was a trade bead or even something more modern?

Its rose quartz. Basically quartz with iron infused. A classic material for fancy beads as well as banner stones. That is still a very nice find even damaged.

Thank you all for your input, I will look through my spoils pile for the other half, although it may have been broken before or as it went into the midden. It is small enough to have went through the screen so I will recheck, but wanted your opinions first:thumbsup:

It looks like a water worn golden beryl crystal, they occur in the Carolinas. The indentation may have been a twin beryl crystal that came off of it. The roughly hexagonal form and color is what makes me think it may have been a beryl crystal traded from the natives farther north.

Pretty sure its just a less polished version of this quartz
