Dug a HUBLEY 'Midget' Flintlock Cap Gun today

I had the whole day to myself and decided that I'd drive around and do a few mini, 30 minute hunts in as many parks as I could between estate sales and yard sales. My second park was one that I hit a couple weeks ago and found a 59' Roosie in. About 15 minutes in I got a solid 3-30 signal on the Minelab and I thought "hell ya, I'll dig that". Well, I pulled out this old HUBLEY cap gun that looked so nice fresh out of the whole that for one split second I wondered if it was a sterling silver decorative piece. This gun is called the "Midget" Flintlock and measures 5.5". The trigger guard is gone but oh well. As nice as it would look with the hammer pulled back I don't want to force it because I might break it and there's no need for that. It was a nice adrenaline rush, that's for sure. I found it at 8 a.m. so not a bad way to start off the day. :coffee2:

Thanks for looking

I second that. Good god man how do I second that. Please make it stop.

That is very cool! The condition is surprisingly good..About 2 weeks ago, I dug a Hubley Snub nosed pistol! The condition of mine is definitely not as good!

I dug a hubley trouper a couple weeks ago on the first day with my new at pro.
I will try to post a picture of it.

If you collect them how old and how valuable

let it die and save for the real diggers ok dusty

This is before I cleaned it. I saw that on a couple parts it was ready to start flaking so I just used a bowl of water and a soft bristle tooth brush that happened to have olive oil caked on to the bristles. The first thing I saw was the butt end of it and my first thought was that it was a silver locket or something. The trigger moves a bit but the hammer seems to be fused or rusted shut.

Great score on the complete old Hubley  I like finding the old capguns, especially when they're complete, that last one I found last winter in the woods and it's complete.

That's a pretty sweet gun, Giant. I'm not even sure of the exact year of mine. Does yours still work? Mine is pretty much complete but missing the trigger guard. I'm not going to mess around with trying to open the hammer.

It's certainly the nicest one that I've dug, I know that. I think being buried only a few inches down and the side of a big hill had something to do with it? I really don't know.

Breezie found by far the best cap gun I've seen posted here in my short time of visiting the forum. It was an 1897 SAMBO which was in terrible shape until the electrolysis. Now it's WOW.

That's a real cool find there man---I've found one black powder toy pistol and it was only about2.5 inches long----was cool find but not like yours--BRAVO!
