Dug fancy metal ???

Dug this at a old homestead site that was in use from the early 1800's to now. Lots of old coins and buttons but I have no idea what this thing is! Any ideas?

I could be way off but could it be a G and a E letters? Maybe of a General Electric company object?

It looks like the decorative weight/hardware on the end of a bell pull. Some bell pulls have tassels, some rings, and some solid pieces like yours.
