I dug this up on the side of a soccer field in a park near me. The park was built over a farm, how old I'm not sure. The only photos I can find go back to 1969. They show a farm and a barn, I was digging about 400 meters from where the house used to stand.

Now on to the coin. It is 27mm in diameter and is now (after corrosion) 1.27mm width and weighs 5.2 grams (0.17 ozt), its a little larger but thinner than a quarter. This thing was UNRECOGNIZABLE until I hit it with an ultrasonic cleaner and then a 5-day olive oil soak. To me this is still unrecognizable, but I am fairly new to numismatics, and this would be the first thing old I pulled up with my detector.

Any help is greatly appreciated, my profile is new, but I've been creeping around on TN for a little over a year now. I know that I'm posting in "Coins", and not "What is this?", but I thought it might be instantly recognizable to you guys with the experience. Thanks!!!

Looks like it could be Washington, maybe a Wales HalfPenny:dontknow:

That's a tough one but Iron Patch will be able to identify.

is it an 18th century king george ii half penny?

Thanks for the suggestions. The profile looks a lot like Washington to me, too. I'll focus my attention to trying to match the profile to some colonial coins/tokens.

I think the "What Is It" forum will be better for this.

It's a clad quarter on top of a round piece of iron. Lol!
No but seriously it does look like a coin of some sort possibly a token?

That looks a lot like a Canadian Blacksmith token IMO - that would be a really cool find! There are a few different varieties that are similar to each other. Hopefully someone else here can help to confirm whether it is or not.

Bramblefind, I think you might have nailed it. The profile on the coin is almost dead-on. This was dug about 45 min away from the Detroit/Windsor border, so it is entirely possible for a token like this to end up here. I've got to get down to the library to try and find out anything else I can.
