Dug my first shoe buckle and it’s marked Paris 1866! There are still tiny traces of the gilt. I don’t know much about these and would love to know more about this type of buckle if anyone can help.

Cool...cleaned up nicely too!

That is way cool....congrats squirrel !!

Very nice find. I have a similar one with no date though. I was informed it is a waist adjuster or fastener, though I can't remember the exact term. Bet you find other relics in the area. Good luck out there.

Cool find for sure but as lenmac says it isn't a shoe buckle. Shoe buckles were long out of use by 1866.

Yep Lemac is right. That's a waist band adjuster.

Awesome! Were these specific to a certain type of garment? A belt? Dress? Pants?

Nice!!! Cool!!! Congrats!!!

Very cool relic in great shape, congrats! :occasion14:

Nice and interesting buckle! Thanks for sharing. :icon_thumright:

These buckles were for the strap adjustment on vests. Usually on the back of the vest, but sometimes on the sides

Thank you!

It looks like it has maker marks on it. Hope you find out more about it. Gary

Great find but it's not a shoe buckle. That doesn't take away from it still being cool
