Virginia Laws that are still on the books:
There is a state law prohibiting “corrupt practices of bribery by any person other than candidates. (This one is so funny! Really, it is!)
You may not engage in business on Sundays, with the exception of almost every industry. (Well, business as usual on Sundays here! Just about every business here in Va Beach are in violation...well, except for Chik-Fil-A...they are closed on Sundays, everywhere! I wonder if I went to my boss and said, "Hey, I can't work on Sunday, cause I don't want to break the law!)
Driving while not wearing shoes is prohibited. (I knew when I first moved here...but heck...this is the beach...who wears shoes?)
Police radar detectors are illegal. (As a citizen, I can own one and I can have one in my car, however, it can NOT have a power source and not readily accessible to me! ONLY police officers and other government officials can have one! Well, I was in the Navy and was considered a FEDERAL EMPLOYEE...was I allowed to have one?)
Citizens must honk their horn while passing other cars. (Never done this or even heard of this one)
Children are not to go trick-or-treating on Halloween. (Awww...well, guess what? It's getting to that point now...Trick or Treating isn't like it was when I was a kid)
It is illegal to tickle women. (LMAO...you know how many guys I could have arrested...LMAO...that is too too funny!)
In Culpeper: No one may wash a mule on the sidewalk.
In Dayton: A person of color may not be oustide or within the city limits after 7 pm. (Truly needs to be removed from the books)
In Frederick: Any person who owns a pool risks a $2500 fine for not closing the gate to the pool when they get done swimming in it.
In Frederick: A special license is required for persons wishing to sell such items as tableware and coins.
In Norfolk: Spitting on a sea gull is not tolerated. (Why not? They dump on us!)
In Norfolk: A man may face 60 days in jail for patting a woman’s derriere.
In Norfolk: Women must wear a corsette after sundown and be in the company of male chaperone. (Ha. like that will ever happen again on both counts!)
In Prince William County: No person may keep a skunk as a pet.
In Prince William County: It is illegal to cuss about another. (Actually, in Va Beach...at the oceanfront...there are NO CUSSING signs posted. You CAN get a ticket if you cuss! That's been out about 3 or so years, if not a bit longer! Nor can you pass the same area in your car on Atlantic Ave twice...you will be ticketed!!! Miss those days of CRUISING THE STRIP!!!
