Looking at the stem on an E-trac. Wondered if water were to move through the stem and rush toward the control/brainbox, if it flows into the control box? Or not? Couldn't really see if things were sealed off or not.

if its made like explorer where coil connection suspended in rubber its will not go directly in to the control box quickly , but its not made water resistant! bee careful!

did you really want to find out if you wanted to buy a new one ?

We told others not to do this but if you insist, go for it. Why didn't you ask if you could drop it in the water?

i was thinking how about putting some low exspanion foam sealer in the shaft to make it water tight up until the head unit? just so you can wade a little? what do you guys think?

Can picture a row of holes in the underside of the upper stem, just for good measure/drainage. Just noticed with the internal wire setup(no adjustment holes in the stem/rod), that could happen pretty easy if dippin in shallow water and tipped up to far before the water flows out by the coil.

you would be better off buying a water machine rather than trying to retrofit.
even if you get it sealed there are no guarantees it will last or for how long

If I spent that kind of cash on a detector, I think I'd protect the investment with a dedicated water machine. Just my opinion though.
