New to the E-trac. As a former WHite's MXT user, the deeper the target the softer/fainter the tone. I've been told that, and it's been my limited experience that the tones remain a constant "loudness" no matter what the depth is. Is this true or does the tone just change in note? What should listen for (if anything) for deeper targets?

Thanks!

Your gain setting will determine that. I max my gain, and always have so the deep targets are loud, but I can still tell when something is very deep. The very deep targets sound is a slightly lower pitched tone (compared to the same target sound when not so deep) , and it has not quite as strong a signal, but still good and repeats both ways. Playing around doing some airtests should give you an idea of how the sound drops off on the deep stuff. BTW.. I use an explorer but would think the E-trac is the same way.

Make sure you Deep is off as it will act like full gain ( all signals as loud as the rest).. I set my gain around 15-17 to hear the quieter tones for deep ones.. So I don't have to look at the depth meter...

Yes, the Etrac functions the same.

yep I set my gain to max as well, I like the deep targets to be loud and clear. My etrac works the same way as how iron patch described
