Mind you I've only had the E-trac for about 6 hours of use, but it seems like there are waaaay too many sounds associated with even one target. It seems like for an iffy target, I'll get anywhere from 2-4 different tones. Coming from a White's MXT point of view, it seems like there are 2-4 separate targets. To me, it's hard to pinpoint a target when this happens. How many tones do most people use (I think there is a setting)??

Lotsa variables for tones..... ferrous or conductive tones, the number of tones(1,2,4 or multi), variability of the tones, normal/long/smooth tones, etc.

Nothing wrong with that. Getting 2-4 sounds for an iffy target is probably what is telling you it's iffy, and once you know the detector, trust me, more will be better. It's what allows you to go by sound only, and understand much more about a target than what the screen can provide.

I agree, way too many sounds! I have had my E-Trac for over a year and I still can't deal with multi tone! I like to relic hunt, I use ferrous 4 tones with little or no disc! Simple I dig anything above a low tone. No brainer. The way I see it if you want to limit the disc you have to use ferrous, on the E-Trac the good items fall into the top 3 tones. Just my way of doing it I try to keep it simple, perhaps I dig more than I should but I know I am not missing too much! HH

MULTI- Plus :D
+2 - +3 Auto sens. In most cases.

I have tried all kinds of different settings in 3,000 plus hours of use.
That's my best and go to.

Coin mode/ quick mask 1-33

I think the DFX is a better machine. I might be putting the E-Trac up for sale . I think of it as a modified ACE 250. HA HA.

Then i wish you the best finding a lot less than you would have found had you had the patience to stick with the Etrac.

I am trying to give it a go and were I'm from all the minelabs have got most of the silver. I had pulled a few deep silvers out with the DFX at the worked out parks and have yet to find any silver in the many parks I have used the E-Trac. All I have found is a two Indian head cents and five wheat's. The DFX hit good on brass tokens and buttons and the E-Trac I'm not sure yet.

I hunt with multi-tones all the time. It's like a new language. At first it sounds like a lot of noise. Then after a while it begins to make sense. Until you get used to it, try hunting with 4 or 2 tones.
