Hi Gang,
Buckeye Treasure Hunter (BTH) brought one of his new E-tracs from his Minelab distributorship and let me try it at the 1850s house in Yellow Springs we cleaned out. My regular hunting buddy, Jeff, was sick and could not try it. We started hunting about 4 pm: bright, sunny, and 77 F.
The E-trac worked well but as I was new at it, I gave it to BTH who said he would show me how to use it. "Lets get a hit and I'll show you how to pinpoint." In about 5 minutes he got a deep signal at 6"--deep for me. We dug out a nail and I said I do that all the time-big deal! Mike said, "No-check it again, the E-trac can look past nails."
I told him to check if he wanted. He reached over and pulled out a large cent from the 1800s!!! Dang him! He offered it to me but I let him keep it as he drove all the way to demo his E-trac for me. It is nice having a friend who is a Minelab dealer.
However we found nothing else at the old house. Mike felt so bad about finding the only old coin there, he let me use the E-trac the rest of the afternoon. I must tell you; I like it. "Santa--did you hear me?"
By about 7 pm I was used to it and got another deep hit where I found old coins before at the big field nearby. I gave up digging at 8". Mike assured me it would be a good coin. We dug a huge hole and I searched and searched. I wass ready to quit but gave it one last swipe with my pin pointer. Mike said, "
I see silver!" Yes siree. Finally and at about 8" deep a dime--SILVER.
I pulled a 1909 Barber Dime with "O" mint mark. I will post it tomorrow.
