Hi Gang,

Buckeye Treasure Hunter (BTH) brought one of his new E-tracs from his Minelab distributorship and let me try it at the 1850s house in Yellow Springs we cleaned out. My regular hunting buddy, Jeff, was sick and could not try it. We started hunting about 4 pm: bright, sunny, and 77 F.

The E-trac worked well but as I was new at it, I gave it to BTH who said he would show me how to use it. "Lets get a hit and I'll show you how to pinpoint." In about 5 minutes he got a deep signal at 6"--deep for me. We dug out a nail and I said I do that all the time-big deal! Mike said, "No-check it again, the E-trac can look past nails."
I told him to check if he wanted. He reached over and pulled out a large cent from the 1800s!!! Dang him! He offered it to me but I let him keep it as he drove all the way to demo his E-trac for me. It is nice having a friend who is a Minelab dealer.

However we found nothing else at the old house. Mike felt so bad about finding the only old coin there, he let me use the E-trac the rest of the afternoon. I must tell you; I like it. "Santa--did you hear me?"

By about 7 pm I was used to it and got another deep hit where I found old coins before at the big field nearby. I gave up digging at 8". Mike assured me it would be a good coin. We dug a huge hole and I searched and searched. I wass ready to quit but gave it one last swipe with my pin pointer. Mike said, "
I see silver!" Yes siree. Finally and at about 8" deep a dime--SILVER.

I pulled a 1909 Barber Dime with "O" mint mark. I will post it tomorrow.

Re: E-trac Test at Yellow Springs

Welcome to the world of the e-Trac. Your life will never be the same. I hunt a good bit in the UK and took a new e-Trac with me last month. Holy crap.
I never dug so many small deep targets in my life. Got 5 nice silver hammered coins. First ones for me.

If it is possible, the e-Trac may be too sensitive. Not just all the deep holes you have to dig but the things it picks up above the ground. I went on a
hunt in the low country of SC this past weekend. It was warm enough that I wore my snake boots. Believe it or not but I couldn't hunt. The e-Trac
was picking up the metal lace eyelets in my boots so much I couldn't hear any signals. Now that's sensitive.

Gotta love the machine though.

Yep, and when your down on your knees digging one of them deep signals, and you pick your detector up midshaft while still on your knees to recheck the hole, you better have your digging tool and your finds pouch on the opposite side of yourself. I spent about 20 minutes on one hole the other day after I had already dug a penny. I grabbed the etrac mid shaft, swept the hole, "tweet", still a signal. Dug a few more inches, checked again, still a signal. Dug a few more inches and this time stood up to check the hole so that I could re-pinpoint, thought maybe I was off target a bit. Swept the hole, no signal. Check the diggings, no signal. I thought what the crap. It was then I realized that the pouch I had on was hanging from my front and not my side and that the etrac was picking up the coins I had in my pouch already... :tard: . That'll make you feel like an idiot.
