I think it's a great find - can't help with ID. though . I've seen some CW officers belt buckles that look similar to that .

Well it's a sword belt plate, I know there are some people here who can tell you exactly what model and what time frame... By dump I'm hoping you mean on old dump from long ago, I'd hate to think it was tossed recently

Awesome find. Definitely a federal model 1851 sword belt plate. You did well!

great buckle!, I know many would love to get that!

Sorry, to clarify...this was found in an old dump that dates back to the 1800s. Thank you guys for all the information.

Super doper find. I would use water and tooth brush, and see how that looks.

OMG Really!!!!!!!!!! I'd be going back often!!! No telling whats still there.....

union type civil war era model 1851 sword belt plate ..(although being pre war model 1851 era issue a southerner could have had it issued to him pre war and still used it during the war ) . sweet find..indeed..looks to be a enlisted mans version ...if that was there--- there might be other civil war era items at the dump-- hit it hard --- ( if your really lucky it might be a civil war era campsite dump) -- rare to find them undamaged in a dump site ..normally they were broke in some way to be tossed ...
