Eagle Decoration for CW or pre CW Hat???

Found this beauty today along with three Eagle buttons and many old bullets.


Any ideas about what it is? Have only done a field rinse on them and I think they will clean up nice.

Wow, nice finds! I'm not sure what these are, but I've noticed on some buttons that the eagle faces left on some and right on others. I've heard that the difference is a button produced during war time, the eagle faces towards the arrows and a button produced during peace time, the eagle faces towards the olive branch. I noticed yours is facing towards the arrows....I hope somebody can help you identify! Congrats!

From memory, the eagle badge is from a Federal Civil War "Hardee hat". The button is much earlier than the Civil War.

I looked up the button, Army great coat button which they started making in 1820.
