Found this little gem in a pasture, not exactly sure of its exact date or origin. both wings and the olive branch it sits on, the feet were folded behind it. I also Found two bells, ( 75% intact on both) and a nice flat button. .. Im pretty sure its a hat plate, but from what war? ...i have no idea. ...all 4 pieces were in different holes 6" down, about a foot apart from eachother. looks as though there may be more olive branch out there I need to find.

Looks like an early hat plate to me. Even in it's condition that is an outstanding find and would make my year! Congrats! :headbang:

I don't have any reference books on headgear and hatplates, but it sure looks like that is what it is. Nice find. Any other military relics coming out of that pasture?

Cool find.........................Thats one still on my list.......................HH

, the weather is supose to be nice all week so we`ll see, either another olive leaf or a set of arrows are out there to complete the right side of the plate.

Wow....killer find. Hope someone can date the hat plate.:icon_thumright:

Hi prolab69, looks like you found a Cavalry Hat Plate off of a Beaver Top Hat from the WAR OF 1812! Congrats, what an awesome find. See pic and link below. This is the closest thing I could find on the web doing a short search. Beaver Top Hat with M1872 Cavalry Hat Plate and Cord, - Cowan's Auctions
