Met up with Bill D yesterday to do some detecting and/or door knocking. Our chances of getting on to an early site was slim due to hunting season but we figured we'd try anyway. The first site was off limits but our next site turned out to be devoid of hunters so we got to work. We immediately hit a large iron patch and spread out to do some cherry pickin'. Our hopes were high but the place screamed early and we knew in the back of our heads the site had probably been picked over. I found a few early leather adornments and pistol balls then I struck Spanish silver. It was a half of a worn Philip V but sadly it didn't come home with me. I probably lost it somewhere in the field :sadsmiley:. I also dug more adornments, pistol balls and a nice 1600s spectacle buckle. Bill found a nice copper but I'll let him show that.

It was a beautiful location and we were kindly invited to come back since there is a lot more land that will hopefully hold more silver for us.

Yes, it was a beautiful setting and a prime spot for an early Virginia home site.

I can't make out a mint mark on the coin. How can you tell it was minted in Spain? Most of the Spanish coins I find around here were minted in the New World.

Hello friends! I think that was manufactured in Spain because Segovia Mint. Look to the left of the shield, there is a Aqueduct.
The aqueduct represents Spanish city of Segovia, therefore, it couldn´t have been minted in the New World

In any case, very great finds!!

Those are some great finds. Sorry to hear the coin go dropped, but at least you know where it was found so you can retrace your steps to re-find it.

Ohh I did not know that you lost it, Joe. I hope you have luck finding it. Animo!

No, I've just been careless lately. I buried my pinpointer a few weeks back too. If I do find the coin though, I'm gonna count it as twice towards my quest to match Bill's old silver count!
If you need assistance finding it, please....... PLEASE don't hasitate to ask. I'll be down there in a flash.

Well done Joey and Bill, I expect nothing else from you guys. Good luck with finding it again, but at least it will give you another reason to visit that beautiful spot in our wonderful Commonwealth.

If it weren´t for the +4000miles, I also could be down in a flash.
I would be happy to help you. Do you know any better job? :D

Thanks Wes. Hopefully things will get rolling in few weeks after deer hunting season and I can get back out and find more silver. Joey

Joey - what is this item in your group shot?

Joe, could you add a larger picture? It would be very helpful.
I have an idea about it, but I'm not entirely sure. I prefer wait to see a more detailed picture to give my opinion.

Many thanks and wish all a Merry Christmas!

Oh man... Lost again... No way... I wouldn't be able to sleep. I lost a bent up buckle one time. I couldn't wait to get it home to begin the straightening and cleaning process, gone it was, and didn't find it till months later. I now have that same sick feeling thinking about your loss... Does it count as yours if Bill finds it?
