Early 1800's Eagle Artillery button, 1881 IH, plus lots more

Happy Easter Folks.
Yesterday I met up with RWSNC (Bob) and B|ker (Bill). We started out the beautiful sunny day at 7:30 am at the farm I hit all last year. I scored a nice Eagle artillery button right in the driveway! After about an hour there, we moved on to the plantation house I've been detecting. We all went our own ways, and I concentrated mainly on the horse pasture areas. Bill provided us with a great chicken sandwich & chip lunch. Made with REAL chicken! Thanks Bill.
After lunch, Bob and Bill had enough, and headed off to a local coin shop to sell off some silver & gold. Really I think their age caught up to them but they didn't want to admit it? :D
I stayed until about 4:30 and had hit a hot spot in one of the pastures. The same area I hit three 1800's buttons last week. This time I got a few more buttons, an 1881 IH, and a chewed Enfield in the same area.
Quite a few relics for the day.
Pictured below is an old lady lawn decoration that I had made for the owners. She (owner) has tons of flower gardens, so I thought it would be a good gesture since they are letting us MD there.
Bob said I was trying to pick up on the old lady, but I think he was just jealous.
Here are my finds:

*Eagle artillery button (23mm) with a "Treble Gilt Stand Colour" back mark. (Found at first farm)
According to Albert's button book it would be circa 1808-1821.

*22mm flat button - "London Treble Gilt" b/mark.

*20mm FLOWER button - B/mark? (can't make it out)

*14mm gold gilt flat button - B/mark ? (can't make it out)

*14mm button or horse harness rivet with a Navy symbol on it.
Any ideas on this strange little piece?

*1881 IH - In cr-ppy condition. It didn't do too well out in the pasture. :'(

*1924 Wheat

*Enfield bullet with a "57" inside the base. (found earlier this week)

*A chewed Enfield. Sure looks like teeth marks to me.
No need to go into the whole human pain bullet - vs- ferrel hog discussion again.

*Large buckle. I think Kirk TN just found one of these too on his post?

*Three cast decorative pieces. Two seem to be a lead alloy, and the other is brass. I think the larger one may be part of a candle holder?

*"P & F Corbin" key. Circa 1920's.
Original ad from the 1920's attached.

*Asst'd: Lantern piece, old plate shard, harmonica reed, watch piece, faucet knob, horse hardware pieces.

Thanks for looking. Now go find those eggs!!! :D

Great finds, Doug and thanks again for sharing your hunting grounds. Super button find.

Thanks Bob. You guys are a hoot. I know you like hunting for old coins, so I'll let you know when I line up another hunting spot. I have a lot to do at this spot, so it may be awhile. :D
Thanks for those pictures you took.

Thanks Mike. I didn't realize it was so old until I found it in Alberts.
I can't believe after pounding that farm for all of last year I found this in the center grass strip of the front dirt driveway! :D

Thanks Deb. I don't know what that piece is? The back side is hollow until it gets out to the elbow to knob area.
Beautiful design though.

Doug, I love that 1808 military button! You and your buddies are still yanking the artifacts out of that plantation house.

Your kind gesture to the landowner will go a long way in the end. She might know someone who would also give you the necessary permission to hunt their land. That was definitely a class act by a classy detectorist! :icon_sunny:

Keep the fever high, Doug Dude! :icon_king:

Re: Early 1800's Eagle Artillery button, 1881 IH, plus lots more

Doug,

I think the War of 1812 era buttons are the nicest ones to find. Some are in excellent condition like yours, most likely because of being thicker one piece buttons for the most part. Yours is a very nice specimen.

I do not find too many military buttons in my area, but do have a few and might have that one but not sure, I need better records of my button finds for sure.

Nice finds, bud! Those buttons are SWEET! Looks like you had another great haul.

As much as I'd like to hunt with you (and we will, one of these days), I'm glad we're working different turfs! You're picking N. Carolina clean!

Cheers and HH,

Thanks Kyle.
I think I'm just going to change my name to Button Boy. :D Me and Nick have a contest going that started today on who will find the first LC, and eagle button. May the best man win. I sure could use an old coppa right about now.

I noticed that too. This era button is so much better quality than the others I have dug up. This thing has really held up well over the years, and came out of the ground looking great with no corrosion or junk stuck to it. I was so happy to see the shank still on it.
Have a great week,
Doug

Brendan,
You guys get the old coins, and I get the buttons. I'm ready to trade for awhile to build up my coin collection. :D
Plenty of nice relics down here for you. I went out at lunch and found a few more. I'll post soon.
Where else can you go out on your lunch break and dig up goodies from the CW, 1800's, or even earlier? I feel a bit spoiled. ::)

Thanks Burdie. It is one of my best buttons for sure. When I saw the eagle on the cannon had a feeling it was a good one, I just didn't realize how old it was. Yaba-daba-doo!
