Early 1800's flat button and how a photograph helped me find it .

This may be my oldest find yet .
From the information I have found it appears to be a 1810 - 1830 era .
It's marked London Double Plated and is missing the shank .

I found this at an old homesite that I have hunted many times without any luck . A few weeks ago the owner of the property presented me with a photo of the house from 1903 . The house was torn down over 45 years ago . Much to my surprise the front yard that I thought I had been hunting wasn't the front yard after all . The actual front yard area I had barely hunted .
So after about 10 minutes of hunting with my CTX , out pops this button .

That info is priceless. It's very difficult to imagine how things looked way back when

sometimes we can only imagine the layout, it isn't always what we think it is, those kind of pics are really helpful

Yes a picture is worth a thousand words .
The area that I thought was the the front yard " fit the picture " for a yard . Large oak trees that were most likely large at the turn of the century and a stone wall . I was certain that it was the front yard , but all I found was iron trash .

I am very curious as to when this house was actually built . It had a new part that had been added on and a old log cabin which was the original house . The old house even looked old in the picture .

Congrats btw if that is indeed your oldest. Always fun to dig your new oldest find

Nice! Thanks for sharing...

Where you're finding 200 year old buttons, something else is bound to be there. That's why it's always better to start thinking wider out from where your site was. Fences, driveways, trees, hedges, even property boundaries may have all changed.

Awesome button find! Nice sleuthing!
