Sometimes it's worth a mile hike just to get to a site. The three of us found a few nice items.

Today's Finds by 3 Guys with Shovels: From l-r, Soldier's shoe tap, brass rivet, several flat buttons, 1878 10 Pfennig German or Austrian coin, .40 cal.pistol bullet, more flat buttons, 1827 draped-bust dime, more flat buttons, 1900 Indian Head cent, brass buckle and possibly an anti-bellum facet handle... hmmm... have to look that one up. ;)

great finds, congrats on the capped bust.. IMO, Benedict and Burnham were the best button makers of their time.. seems their stuff always comes out with gilt no matter where they're found

That's my first B&B, but I'll be looking for more. I was amazed by the condition since in a field, relics are often subject to harsh fertilizers. Thanks for your comments.

Excellent finds. Great variety of buttons. That B & B button with the gold gilt is a beauty.
Congrats guys,
MM

Holy Smokes!

Excellent finds! Always love to see when thread is still attached to the buttons...too cool! :icon_thumright:

I believe your Benedict and Burnham dates 1834 - 1843. Great hunt!!

You had a great day. Alot of nice relics to go with that capped bust. :icon_thumright:

like your old finds some very cool stuff and yes even old hippie smoking device

Yup, we thought it would be best to play dumb about the pipe and refer to it as a faucet handle. Falls under the, "one of these things doesn't belong" category. ;)

Nice finds! Congrats to whoever found the Capped Bust dime :headbang:

I have found a couple of those "handles" in my day :laughing7:

I agree about Benedict & Burnham. They knew how to throw gilt on a button! Here is my favorite Benedict & Burnham.

Your not wrong, & that one is one of the nicest I have seen in awhile :icon_thumright:

Like cthat button!! Heck, I like it all. You are in a wonderful historic place to hunt. WTG, Quindy.

Great recoveries!!! Congrats :icon_thumleft:

What makes you think the toe tap,was a soldiers??

If you look close at the front edge it may have the 1858 Patent date

That foriegn coin is a German one, not Austrian.

Killer finds! Any capped is a great hunt, regardless of wear or condition.

Cheers,

Buck

Here's the capped bust cleaned up a little. Pretty worn out, but I'm gonna keep it.
