Last Thursday I stayed in Gunnison Co. and took the very quiet and almost no traffic Cochetopa pass in to the San Luis Valley for a quick trip to northern New Mexico. On the west side it was a very cold and frosty morning. On the east end of the pass coming in to Saguache and the San Luis things were getting very green. It brought to my mind the song that was sung by the american folk singer of the 60's Barry McGuire's song Green, Green on the far side of the hill when he was with the New Christy Minstrels. I was young when that song was playing on the radio, but it sure had an influence on me at the time. From then on I just could never sit still in one place for very long.

Just get in your vehicle and go. Take that MD with you. There are so many drives you can head in to the mountains one way and come back another way from Den.Metro that wouldn't eat up that much fuel. I like to just go up Clear Creek Canyon (take a gold pan if going Clear Creek Canyon) or I70 and hit that newer by-pass off 70 and drive up to Central City take the peak to peak highway and come back down through Boulder Canyon or even go as far as Estes Park. I can tell you need to get some mountain air. It's time...

Cool pictures! In the last couple days instead of it actually raining it was actually spitting small pellets of ice.

Nice photographs! Thanks for sharing...

Tamrock,
Every chance I get I am up in the hills somewhere. And you pegged me - I always try to make a circle of my adventures - no need having to repeat the scenery if we don't have to! Currently many issues both at work and home are cutting into my play time (you are right about needing mountain air!!!). I spend a lot of time along Clear Creek either sluicing or later in the summer fishing. I live in Golden so CC is my backyard!

Hey Tamrock, if you get over west on I-70, there's an eagle's nest in a cottonwood on the south side of the road about a mile east of DeBeque. That eagle has been up there standing guard the last two days. I spotted it Tuesday headin to Utah, and intended to get a pic today, but they had road construction goin on so I couldn't pull over. It's close enough to the road you should be able to get a good pic. I missed my chance and probably won't be back that way for awhile.

I'll try and do that RG. I drove by DeBeque going on a road trip with my honey this last Thursday and didn't catch that nest. Had to listen as I had a passenger that was talking this trip. That almost is never the case with me. We stayed in GJ last night and went to the Dino park up here in NW Colorado. I've got a few shots of the Yampa river canyon here I'll work on here from Craig Colorado.

I know the work and home thing and it's tough to get away from those important duties. I took a job back on the road as the kids got all grow'd up and I'm not so vitally needed at home these days. Back when I could only get a few weekends free, I'd do all my trips local like go up and around Gold Hill or hike up shadow canyon and climb to the top south Boulder peak. I'm on a quick two night out road trip with my honey now and we drove to Grand Junction first night and from there headed up to Dinosaur National Monument today and we'er now in Craig and we'll stop for a bit in Steamboat and be back to the front Range sometime tomorrow. It's very quiet up this way now and the weather is nice and cool this time of the year. A trip like this one you see allot in little time without spending a bundle.

RG, Tamrock missed the nest.... I did start looking as I passed by the location you gave, but didn't remember the south side of the road part, :( so I looked at both sides of the interstate. It was the end of the day and the roughnecks were all high balling back to GJ, so I had to be sure I wouldn't be drifting in the hammer lane and get nail by those end of the day hard working folks headed asap for a nice cold one. Is the nest in a dead Cottonwood of living? I don't know if some prefer that over a large fully leaved tree, but I've seen eagles nest in dead trees more then a few times ??.
