Early Saxon Site...

Our plan today was to find another hot-spot in a large ploughed field, but after 2.5 hours of nothing other than 2 buttons we gave up that plan & gridded the known area after lunch. It's not a great area & it could have gone a lot worse, Cru'Dad had his first skunk of the year(Actually as long as I can remember), unless you count 1 horse tooth.
5 hours 45 minutes;

4 Scrappies (One might be Celtic??)
Saxon Pot Shard
Medieval Purse Bar (piece)
Nice 6th C Saxon Small-Long Brooch with Lappets. (Near complete)
Small frag of a large high status 6th C AD Chip Carved Brooch with hidden faces.
Frag of Ring (Roman? Saxon?)

Digging the Saxon era, and the awesome finds that go along with it is so cool. There's just something about the design, and that alone sets it apart from many other eras. Congrats

Yeap, imagine the brooch whole like the above. I can't find a match for mine but you get the idea, its the top of the square-headed Brooch. The faces were probably up-side-down when worn.

Yeap, pretty special. Can't find a match in my books, or over 1300 records of early Saxon Brooches on the PAS.

Anything 6th C. is rare. Not to talk about a high status brooch. No wonder there is no match with every piece hand crafted.

The bottom right coin that I thought might be Celtic is an early Potin;
