Hello All,
Shanegalang and I got our Canefield mojo on, got permission, and found us a nice new site. I was certain that this spot would cough up an old coin or interesting item. We found all the right signs there: scalloped feather-edge china, clay pipe stems, and some mid-1800s items. This field is truly a mixed site, with finds ranging from the 1700s right up to marbles and wheat cents from the 30s. So each dig is truly a mystery. Anyhow, we got out there and had some great luck with me digging a nice almost complete barrel tap, a surprise dropped Enfield, and a nice Indian Wars Era "U.S." Rosette.
Shane dug him an 1839-O Seated Half Dime almost at dark. The debris field from this site is huge, and I am convinced we haven't hit the sweet spot yet. Anyhow, this brings us to SIX Seated Orleans Silvers (all pre 1843) for the year so far. That is a great season on early Seated coins alone. The half dime isn't in nice shape, but it is a very welcome keeper, and such a great sign for a new spot like this.
Here are some "freshly dug" photos, followed by a photo of my finds including the rosette, and close-up photos of the 1839-O Half Dime.

Best Wishes,
The Cane Field Bandits
