Relatively new NASCAR fan, been watching since 2001. But even in my short time I've gone from totally enthralled to not even watching anymore.
Spent thousands traveling to live races. It's the hotel costs that kill ya, not the tickets. Hotels price gough. Don't mind paying $75 for a good seat but refuse to pay $250/night for a hotel room when any other weekend of the year the same room would cost $65.
Did my bit as charitable person, donating to Victory Junction Gang Camp etc. Supporting Micheal Waltrip and Kyle Petty in their efforts to raise 1 million dollars for Operation Marathon. They ran a real 26 mile marathon. That's just nuts.

I don't like walking 3 miles at a time let alone running 26 of them so I was happy to send in my ten bucks for the cause.
Have met Brendan Gaughan, Mike Waltrip, Kenny Wallace, Denny Hamlin, Kyle Petty, Ernie Irvin, Rusty Wallace, Kyle Busch, Mark Martin, and I know I'm leaving someone out. Most have been through basic meet and greets, some as fan interaction - hey can I please have your autograph - stuff. All were pleasant, some like Brendan going out of his way to answer questions and pose for pics with the fans. But what I don't like is the constant pitch of products and the android behavior that's expected of these people. Also do not like how it's about being fast moving billboards. When did the focus become unofficial advertising agency for corporate America and stop being about racing?
If a car crashes during a race what happens, a microphone is shoved in the driver's face once they come out of the care center. Now, are they allowed to tell the truth and have real human emotions? No. They'll get fined.
What do they say? "Well the coca cola pepsi chocolate chip cookie cleaning product financial service car was running really good. Hate it for my guys, they work so hard at the shop but we'll get 'em next week."
BULL!
You know that's not what they are thinking but what they have been trained to say. They have to take care of their sponsors all while maintaing this fake family friendly atmosphere corporate NASCAR wants to portray.
Unfortunately everyone in NASCAR is part of a big reality TV show these days and it's all about making money. When it's about racing, maybe I'll start watching again.
