I assembled these finds in one of my spare 12" X 18" frames for my friend Mike this past August. There's Quartz, Quartzite, Novaculite and Chert represented there. The centerpiece is grit tempered clay. I told him that if he hears that I came up dead, he needs to come on over right away and get that frame (implying that was the only way he's gonna get it!) :evil5: All finds from Lake Martin Alabama.

That’s a nice assemblage!

All from the same site?

Man yeah, that's a nice looking display!

Some but not most, just surface finds from the banks of a reservoir where a dam was built in the 1920's in a strategic location in the tri-county area (Coosa, Elmore and Tallapoosa counties) known as Cherokee Bluffs--the Tallapoosa River was dammed-up. Lake Martin was named after a man named Thomas Martin--CEO of the Alabama Power Company until his death in 1964. APC controls the lake level based on various factors such as flood potential, demand for electricity, recreational potential, maintenance to residents property, etc... It is 491' AMSL at full pool and will usually not fall below 482' AMSL which is typical in winter. Much more interesting facts are available about it's creation. Check out a few in these links if you'ld like and I'll list these few here. I live about 4 miles away from a famous location there named Kowaliga. Country music legend Hank Williams lived there, wrote a song and recorded it about Kowaliga the wooden indian. There's a boat landing there now too!

Martin Reservoir Facts:
Elevation above sea level: 491 feet
Area: 41,150 acres
Shoreline: 880 miles
Length: 31 miles
Maximum depth at dam: 155 feet
Area of watershed draining into reservoir: 3,000 square miles

This is my friend Meg's finds from the same area as Mike's (they were husband and wife at one time). I assembled this 12" X 18" frame for her as well.
