Hello all.

I hope that everyone is finding ways to lessen the fever during these colder months.

Recently while searching the internet for more info on my area of prospecting I came by a newer geologic map that shows some bench deposits along a creek that I prospect and mine in in virginia.

The map describes the bench deposits as orange brown in color consisting of clay silt sand with cobbles on top of saprolite bedrock with the deposit being elevated about 20 to 50 feet above the existing stream and being any where from 1 foot to 50 feet thick.

I plan on going out and locating it this Sunday. Does anyone here have experience with east coast bench deposits or just bench deposits in general? What should I be looking for given that it is located in a wooded area?

Some more info on it: it appears to be located on a low pressure zone in the creek given the general topography of the area and it is adjacent to a feeder creek that has a number of old gold mines on it.

I will post a map later today showing he area with the bench.

Any help is appreciated!

Thank you

On both pics the main creek flows from the left side of the pic to right side. The gold bearing feeder creek comes in from the north.

Sounds interesting & I hope knowledgeable people will chime in with useful info about bench deposits. :icon_thumright: I'm not a miner or prospector but lived in beautiful Virginia for 40 years. I sure miss the many creeks and rivers there! Have Fun, be safe and find the gold you seek! Andi
