After a two hour hunt this morning with my newly acquired 5.75 (I swear it's 6"), I am wondering if something is wrong or this is the way it is compared to the 8.9 Concentric stock coil. My detector is the DeLeon.

The 5.75 is very quiet. Until you get over a target there is absolutely no sound, eerily quiet. No chatter.

The primary settings I used are as follows: Threshold: 01:00. Disc level l little to the left of foil. Sensitivity 8. I did move these around a bit, but 80% of the time I had it on those settings.

That's also where I have them on the larger coil.

I have read that the smaller coil does a better job of discriminating out he unwanted metals. Perhaps that's why.

I would like to know if some of you have experienced the same thing.

higher sensitivity...

You can probably run sensitivity up higher with the smaller coil. It sees less ground, and less of the ground's mineralization. Would be nice if you could go more negative on the ground balance as well, but I think you have no choice there.

Run sensitivity as high as you can stand, meaning without constant chatter. Happy hunting! :sunny:

Tesoro's silent search in Disc. mode really is. Especially on areas with light trash and/or few targets. I've been known to throw a coin on the ground just to make sure my detector was still working.

Bill, that is a relief. I did the same thing this morning. Dropped one on the ground and even buried a dime 4" just to make sure it was working. Yes it was.

In mild ground the depth of the DeLeon will surprise you.

I found a drill bit at least 2" deeper than the length of my Makro PP. Pretty cool.

My new 5.75 coil has me perplexed, if that's the right word. I did some air tests today, and the results were outstanding. Especially in AM.
And then everything changed.

Went outside, placed several coins down, and some iron.
In any mode it wouldn't ring it up until the coil was around 2 to 3" on top of it. Sometimes not at all without several passes.

What do y'all thinks going on?

What were your settings (outside)?

I changed the settings several times. Most of the time the sensitivity was at 8, threshold 01.00 o'clock, discrimination a little to the left of foil.

I was just thinking. I have only tried it in my yard, which doesn't harbor a lot of metal anway.
I'm thinking it might perform best in an old city park I've been hunting.

8 should be plenty of sensitivity. Threshold should be just a light, audible hum when in all metal. 01.00 would be quite high on my D. You don't mention any interference, but for test purposes be sure you're well away from any possible electrical feedback. And double check all the obvious - batteries, coil connection etc. and try the stock coil in the same location/situation. If all this fails, call Tesoro.
