Ejected Wheaties

Went to return the last bag of quarters to my CU and found these in the coin machine reject tray.
1920 D
1935
1943 D Steel
1950 S
1954 S
The vault manager I deal with was not there so I could not get the penny bag as I think there just might be many more in there.
Going back tomorrow to see if I can buy it.

Every time I'm at a store that has a Coin Star machine, I check the reject "bowl". Yesterday I found a foreign coin, a token and a 1949 Silver Dime.

I had this same thing happen to me once, grabbed a handful of wheaties out of the reject chute... Once they popped open the machine to pull my bag of halves they also pulled a bag of pennies and I spotted a big dump of them. Was lucky enough to be able to get the bag:

Whenever I find a wheat in the reject chute it's almost always pre-1940. Maybe the excess wear makes them slightly lighter and prone to rejection.

Went back today.
HUGE WHEATIE DUMP
I have not counted them yet. I need to date check them.
100's and 100's of them
Also the inner reject tray was overflowing.
Including wedding ring and a few what looks like diamond earrings. And well over $10 in change.
The one thing that scares me is the hypodermic needle cover (no needle)
Not sure how long it is going to take me to date check all these.

my CU says the reject bin is sent to lost & found -- I can't buy bags . bet Mr. Found makes out good on the "lost" coins & trinkets. why wheats get kicked at 3.1 grams & coppers don't is a mystery, doubt the machines have a built in spectrum analyzer

I don't think I mentioned but these came from a bag of pennies that I bought.
He opened up the machine and let me look to see which bag had the goods.
There were 3 bags in the coin machine. The first newest one I could see bunches of them.
He also let me look at the dime and quarter bags to see if I saw any silver. I did not see any so I only bought the 1 penny bag.

I actually had the same issue with my Ryedale. I set it for copper. It kept all the copper on one side, and the rest (zinc basically) went to the reject tray. but as I fed it, I watched the reject tray as coins came out. Darker ones I would flip. I found numerous per 1940 coppers in the reject tray. For some reason, Ryedale didn't think the pre 1940 wheats were copper like the others.

So it isn't wear making it happen. It is in the composition. Never a 1940 - 1981 in the reject tray, but numerous 1939 and older.

Speaking of "Wheaties", is there a going market price for common date / circulated condition coins that I could expect to see if & when I decide to dump my wheats. I have possible thousands.

I would presume that if I pulled out grades of FINE or better, I can probably sell those for numistmatic value.
