Managed to take a break from the cricket on sunday mainly due to the bad weather we have been having lately, so my detecting partner and myself decided to look for new land. having knocked on a few farms and having no luck we decided to head up towards the Cleveland hills(UK) we came across a couple of fields recently plowed and quickly tracked down the land owner who redilly gave us permission to hunt, a few finds from Victoria's reign and few musket balls was all I had to show after a couple of hours so I decide to make my way back up the Field towards the car, about ten yards from the fields entrance I had nice to way signal I pushed in the spade about to inches down and flipped the soil over out popped the tiny silver coin perfectly round, not bad considering it has been in the ground the best part of five hundred years.

Now I got the whole story. Isn't it funny how many times those sort of things happen.

I always cover a field systematically. However from time to time & when I'm doing a new field I will do the drunk man wonder. Once I started a new field & walked out into the middle in a round-about route & immetiately found a Roman Denarius. Feeling that this must be a good field I cover the whole 20 acres over many hours without another roman silver or even a good bronze???

Yeeap, get it together boy.

The Mint Mark is as clear as they come on that baby - nice coin. Not clipped either, shame its like all the Lizzy with the weak face, but you can't have it all. :'(

I may jump on a train & join you up North for a ale or two & some plough field fun ;)

Outstanding! That's a great-looking coin.

I expect you guys know how good you have it. U.S. MDers out east have a much better chance at finding a 230-year-old Colonial Copper. Here in the Midwest, we kick up our heels when we find something from the 19th century (like Queen Vickie, whom I found today on a dime).

And a DFX user in the UK found an Ethelred coin from the year 830.... we can only shake our heads.

Great find, and continued success.
