You might laugh, but I found Elizabeth Town Maryland, a key to a treasure tale. Would you believe it is now called Hagerstown, but in 1794 it was Elizabeth Town ! The trail to the west from there is now Rt 40. Frank
The land was originally purchased by Jonathan Hager in increments. I did not read enough to find when the area was originally called Elizabeth Town, but it was eventually changed from that name to Hagerstown because all of the people who lived there referred to the town as Hagerstown.
