You wanna stir up some trouble, go to the local newspaper and tell them emaralds from the "Atocha" are being washed up on the beach. I would definitely hold on to that one until you find out for sure what the heck you got there. Best of luck...................Rich

If it looks like this, it's Jade.

Sweet eyeball find there! 8)

Hey brother,
I think u got a jade stone there. Emeralds when old and washed up on the beach, which many have on the treasure coast are black coated. Very clear some of them and a lighter green. Like the one BIo PROFFESOR posted earlier. Yep that one looks like it just popped out of the ring, good luck with it being valuable, I hope u get some cash for it!!

Too bad your jeweler is your friend. If he/she thinks it is an Emerald and will buy it as such but it is really a nice piece of Jade, you would get about 10 times what it is worth. Nah, bad idea to do to anyone. Education is expensive but you could just tell them they messed up without ripping them off. Tempting though. ;D

I would take it to a couple stores, telling them you found it and want to know what it is......

No matter what it is, it is a GREAT eyeball find in the surf....amazing how you can spot something when you train your eye.

I use to hunt points in the midwest, I got where I could spot a point instantly and many times from many feet away depending on the circumstances. It wasn't that I was great at it, I just hunted every weekend for years.

Let it rain on a plowed field that bordered a creek, or stream and you would find me in the field in my mud boots in the pouring rain looking for points, didn't matter how cold it was.... Let a gully washer come down and as soon as the water receded, I was in the creeks and streams hunting points....

well not really on the dones some what.

Watch out being in the dunes. HEAVY, HEAVY fines for being in there and even more if you disturb the sand. Ouch. :o

If you look at the beach, there is a vegetation line. There will be green stuff growing in the sand. If you are past that "line," you are in the dunes. I spend the winter on Tybee Island, GA. They just raised the MINIMUM fine for being in the dunes to $1000. Now that WILL get people's attention.

Well it could be......
