EMI/RFI Filter

Has anybody tried a EMI/RFI filter on there coil line ? Will it help around high power lines? How will it effect my metal detector, I have Whites XLT ?

I've tried the ones that you wrap the wire through, if that's the kind you're referring to. I've tried them on my White's XLT and F-70 and F-75 Fisher as well.

I originally tried them to see if they would help with electric fences, but have used them for powerlines too. They didn't make much difference at all with the fence

and very little with the powerlines, but I'll tell you this though, it seemed to do better when I put the filter closer to the coil. Of course it needs to be tight so it won't cause the

unit to pick up the movement of the wire. All in all Kent, I wouldn't buy any to try them, but if you have some laying around (I happened to have them already) then give it a shot.

Perhaps it'll work better for you than it did for me! Hope this helps!

It will attenuate the harmful external interference which has been picked up by the search coil and cable. Also, it has no effect on the internal electronic signals which are operating within your metal detector's control box and wiring. So, it will not get damage it or not reduce effectiveness of detector.
