Engagement ring lost in CA

Where in CA are you located? Many of the modern detectors can discriminate between different metals and a user familiar with their machine could possibly locate your ring. Good luck. I know many on this site would be happy to help you out.

I suggest starting... do you own a detector?.... by calling our latest sponsor, Kellyco, and get a discriminating detector. Get a ring similar in size and metal to the one lost. Lay it in a "field of nails" and then sweep over it, upping the disc until the nails don't register but the ring still will. Good luck! TTC

PB,
Where are you in N CA? I will be up in Murphys, CA... about 60 miles SW of Tahoe for an EXTENDED stay shortly. Need a displaced Wisconsinite to md with on occasion? TTC

It would be hard to find it amongst nails and trash. But if you have good information, the right equipment, and the experience it can be done. If you live in SoCal I can try to find it.

Terry, are you going to md around mark twains cabin?

Yes, I will be! Not right there, though, But I will be in the area starting about Sunday. My brother and I will Start at the Dutchess Mine... along the Stanislaus, and other locals. I'll give you a holler, Dunc. BTW did you know the Mark Twain cabin was built AFTER he was in the area? He went through there... Celebrated Frogs of Calaveres County.... as a young man. The "commemerative" cabin was built in 1922. Hope to see you then, sometime! TTC

lstring, as the others have said, if you post what city you're in, you're more than likely to find hobbyists, who are already proficient, to help. Since it's a hobby, most here do it for fun, and wouldn't charge. If you post the city, I, or another CA hunter here, will invariably know someone in whatever corridor it's in.

The size ring will make a difference. The larger it is, the easier to get. But if it's one of those super thin (like a ladies solitaire), then you will need a good machine and operator, as those can read down into the way-low foil area. And adding nails and iron to the mix will compound the problem, espeically if the nails are on TOP of the ring. But if the ring is above the iron/nails, and you have a good operator, who knows how to alleviate masking, and has the right machine for such a task, it should be found. Hopefully you know the approx. area, (and not something as vague as "somewhere in this 10 acres" :)

Istring,
You may be in luck! I will be in CA soon. I will be changing my Veterans Affairs site to Palo Alto soon. That's "in the ball park" for Mill Valley. I'm not saying I can find it, nor that I may have more than one day at it, but I'm willing to give it a try. I'm an OLD FART 60, with back problems, so after an hour or two, I will teach you how to use one of my several machines and YOU will look! (and now for a little pat on the back)... Have some of the younger bucks on this site give you a hand . If no luck, I will try. TTC

Terry, I'm about 130 miles North of Sacramento off I-5

PB,

That's okay. I can make that area, once in a while. Good. I've panned the Paradise area before. Up by Chino. You are not too far for an occasional visit. I'll keep in touch. I fly into Sacramento on Sunday. Thanks TTC
