Entry level metal detector.

A friend asked for advice on getting a metal detector for his 10 y/o boy. I've not kept up with the different models that much since I got the AT Pro to go with my Infinium a few years ago. I asked where they will be detecting and it looks like a VLF will be good choice for now. He's looking for something that will not break the bank but that the kid will not out grow too soon. Any suggestions?

I bought my dad an Ace 300 kit a couple years ago. It seems to work really well and came with a pinpointer and all the stuff you need to get started. There may be some after Christmas sales or decent used detectors on the market in that range.
