Epoxy on the coil ,,,, safe? Saw the topic here before but can't find it

I'm tired of removing the coil cover every 20 mins to clean the coil. I need to know what epoxy works the best , I saw it posted here but I can't find the topic , Someone said marine epoxy works best . Going to fix this issue today sorry for the repeated topic but I have been looking for an hour now . and now I'm over it ,, please advise Guzz1

I'm going out sunday,,, weather here has been pretty good here . water has been calm ,not much surf on last wed. haven't been out since then ,,,, finds are limited to clad Guzz1

Hey Dave Therer's not much there . It usually gets pick clean before 5 am ,,I'M gonna start night hunting at that spot .. a buddy of mine has drilled holes in his cover about every two inches. use cable ties if you have to for it to stay on. With the holes, any sand inside will fall out. I haven't done it to mine yet, but he says he has no problems.

One would think the epoxy trick would be faster and easier. I know I have not had any problems with any of my coils by doing it this way. And...I know the previous threads on this subject have contained supporting testimonies and advice about the epoxy method from the more experienced members.

On my waterproofed Sov GT the WOT is hardwired to the controls and it has epoxy on it, and I have a 10 inch coil with epoxy on it also, that epoxy is HARD, I used a small plastic cup that electrical tape comes in to mix it in, and what was left over in it dried. It is hard as a rock and I tried to break it by bending the the cup and it will not break.

My land Sov GT still has the coil cover on it, I am thinking of trying the spray bedliner in a can on a spare coil to see how it works as well.....

I have epoxy on both mds Gt And excal I just did the excal yesterday , I'm still waiting for it to dry should be ready today... The covers are a pain in the butt, HHguzz1

Currently using coil covers, but thinking of switching to epoxy.

sand in covers is a problem, but also would like a bright color to make it easier to see coil when possible.
does the expoxy come in bright colors?

Your just gonna coat the bottom of the coil ,, can't see it anyway ,,,I did mine it works great .. use the cover far an ashtray Guzz1

I was going back in some of my bookmarked threads on this subject and came across this one from Apr '07. Can't remember if I had shown this one or not, but take a look at GravediggerMax's thread and pics. He also had painted the bottom and the inside of the coil. I had gotten some PMs back in Sep when I did mine that told me to epoxy the bottom & the inside...(meaning inside the spoke), but they never said whether to do the top or not.

I have been in the marine business for years. Let me suggest that you use at least two coats and that you make each coat a different and contrasting color. This way if there is any wear it will be evident right away.
