Epoxy on the coil ,,,, safe? Saw the topic here before but can't find it

I'm tired of removing the coil cover every 20 mins to clean the coil. I need to know what epoxy works the best , I saw it posted here but I can't find the topic , Someone said marine epoxy works best . Going to fix this issue today sorry for the repeated topic but I have been looking for an hour now . and now I'm over it ,, please advise Guzz1

Hey Guzz Max uses Locktite epoxy. I have used JB Weld on my CZ 20, and it works well for me.

Yes, the Marine Loctite epoxy is the one to use. Don't seal the coil cover cracks with a silicone sealant as water and black sand still gets inside. The epoxy is the only way to go.

Now see, Guzz, if you became a Charter Member, you could use the Search feature......LOL

I know you have already done it....but for others...here are a couple of the links. I did my several months back, and they are still doing great. The epoxy paint may tend to chip a tad from all of the banging on the rocks, but all you have to do is just touch those spots up. I am happy as a lark with mine.

Yea I tried to become a charter member a month back didn't work for some reason .. I'll try again.. Thanks for tips, I'm gonna do my excal as well,, Thanks again Mel Guzz ( Gary)

Why do you need to clean the coil so often?
The cover that came with my Excal2 stays on till the end of the day with no problems at all. If anything, my complaint is that it is so difficult to remove.

P.S.
Excal2 battery needs charging:.. At the end of day today, the machine began acting as odd as I am. A low batt tip off. Applied the meter and read 11.76vdc. Full charge is about 14.3vdc.

I have the Excal 1000, and literally the first 10 minutes that I had it in the water....literally the first 10 minutes!...the cover came off and went bye-bye. I then started hearing others having the same problem. When Sandman told me about the epoxy paint, I tried it....and like I said, I'm happy as a lark with it now. I'm planning on doing my DFX too.

It's like somebody PM'd me one day...they said....why are you bothering with a coil cover? They are a pain in the a$$. Now that I've epoxy painted mine, I have to admit...why bother with the cover? It's just an extra thing to worry about.

When your hunting you don't want to have to worry about other crap ,, My sov kept getting sand in between the coil and the cover and kept falseing. Then I would stop and clean it... real pain... I have yet to get in the water with the excal . I just got it this fall .Water temperature down here is a little cool for me this time year. I'll get a jump on it and do the excal tomorrow . I'll be in the water by the end of march,, that's where all the goodies are anyway. For now I hunt the dry and the wet. finds are meager at best though right now. just clad ...... Would adding Epoxy to the coil void the warranty in any way? I just bought an Excalibur II and Explorer SE with the 3 year warranty on it. just wondering if the coil woulld fail withing that time, Would Minelab, Sunray or Coiltek honor the warranty.

Guzz1,

What made you decide on the Sovereing GT for a land/Beach detector? what diference did you see between the Excal and the GT for beach hunting? Like I said before, I have an Excal II and Explorer SE but I have seen great comments on the Sov GT for beach hunting.

My sov gt is my backup detector basically . but i decided to use as my main for the beach , and I use excal for the water . The sov is a great md . I like it as well as the excal. plus I use a digimeter in the dry sand and wet . There's a lot of junk on the beach that's where the meter comes in handy.. HH guzz1

Hey Ralph , I guess over time the covers tend to loosen some . and sand get in between the cover and the coil and it starts to false . I know a lot guys just pop the covers off , however you still need to protect the coil some way ,That's where the epoxy comes in to play..... it works great!,,HH guzz1

Epoxy on almost all of mine the coil covers do not even make good frisbees. I throw them in a pile may try to sell all of them I have on ebay one day.
