OK, I'm back with another noob question that I suspect has no simple answer. The question is: does the depth indicator on an Equinox 600 have any real meaning? I know there have to be many variables involved like soil type, mineral content, moisture content, target size and composition, etc. I guess I'm looking for some general guideline as to how deep something may be based on the indication on the detector.

In general, I find each bar is about 2". The size of the item seems to effect the accuracy of depth in my sandy soil.

Size of target always affect depth meter. Meter is just an estimate of depth.

Exactly.. 2 bars can be 2" or 4".. depends on the target and target size..Most often I find two bars to be about 2" deep. 1 bar is almost always a surface find for me..

Pinpointing and raising the coil up and down can also give an idea of the size and depth.
