I'll admit it...I'm terrible at manipulating the settings and field modes for the Nox 800. Recently I tried to make some adjustments to deal with a highly mineralized rocky fresh water beach, and it was a disaster. The detector went crazy with insane chatter, so I decided to just go back to factory settings. I mostly hunt fields and woods in Field 1 or Field 2. Before I made all these changes and resets I would hear a nice hum which would null out over iron (which I liked). Now I do not hear the hum. How do I get that back? Is the volume too low? Did I not set the discrimination level correctly? I just want to plug and play...I am not a computer programmer lol and this Nox is too confusing.

You'll at least have to look at the owner's manual to get to the threshold setting....IIRC top center button pressed 3-4 times. Then up down to raise or lower the volume. "chatter" can come from a variety of sources. Sensitivity set too high, Wrong search mode for the site, ground balance way off, or, EMI. Start with picking the correct search mode. Personally, I never use the Field modes except for Field 2 if I'm looking for tiny gold and don't want to use the Gold modes. Park 1 is my preferred mode for most field, turf, and dry sand hunting. Next would be Noise cancel. Then ground balance if necessary. Where I live under most circumstances, I don't need to change it, but it doesn't hurt to set it. Lastly, adjust the sensitivity to where it's stable. Changing settings is the benefit of having a high end machine, but, knowing what those changes do is key. Either read the manual to understand them, or, leave the machine on default and just adjust sensitivity. You lower that enough and it will be quiet......and you'll lose depth.

Great reply!
