It must have sat out of circulation for long time, being the condition it's in.

I'm apparently not seeing what you are. I dont see an image of Lincolns head on the reverse.

I think I know what you are talking about, what looks like a slightly sunken in bust-like shape of the reverse, that lines up with Lincoln's head on the front? I have noticed a good amount cents that have the same thing, a lot of 1946 cents also have this for some reason. I'm not really sure what causes it, but I remember in the past thinking that it was caused by over polished dies. Many of the 1946 cents have very polished dies (removing part of the date in some cases) along with this I also see the slight imprint of Lincoln's bust on the reverse. The 1922 no D cent, the most famous over polishing error also seems to have a slight imprint of Lincoln's bust on the reverse too. It isn't anything very collectible or rare as rare as I know, and probably doesn't add a premium to the value. I'm sorry if you were talking about something else and this isn't any help!

not an error. I've seen what you're talking about before and have had several pennies myself that have had the same 'issue' (for lack of better words). Some of the older pennies had a higher relief of Lincoln's head (especially compared to today's pennies), and therefore had to require higher stamping pressure to fill the die to press the features of the coin. This resulted in an ever-so-slightly sunken reverse which usually left the features of the Lincoln Memorial very slightly weaker in the center than each end, usually most noticeable on the steps. The penny is in nice shape but not valuable from a collectors view because they minted nearly 1.5 billion in 1965. Would make a nice filler for a Whitman year by year collector folder though

I really like the high relief of the early '60s cents. Looks like a sculpture compared to the cartoony play money in our pockets today.

You picked up something that I surely would not have noticed. Keep looking. It is going to be very hard to get a real defect past you.

The coin has a Ghost Image of Lincoln on the Reverse caused due to grease built up on the Dies. This problem has occurred many, many years on probably millions of Lincoln Cents but seemed to be more prevalent during the 1960s and especially during the mid to late 1960s.
