YUPPPP!!!! appears the obverse is a CUD @ LIBERTY that caused to "quarte" to be impaired due to lack of supporting metal from the die break...... KILLER FIND!!!!!!!

someone may have stole that from a collection
and spent it.

I can't imagine that floating around for over 30 years

No. It's simply a missing clad layer. The missing layer caused not enough thickness to add the letters. Not a cud.

Sorry, Ace. I am going with Enamel. Were it a cud, there would be a raised area. This was caused by lack of metal in the coin due to missing cupronickel on lower half of reverse. Just not enough metal to fill the die.

Still, great find.

Time for more coffee.

agreed, a better photo would have made your assessment clearer. and that's why we trust your opinion

Hey guys, thanks for checking out my coin. You guys pretty much confirmed what I thought, missing clad layer and I was a bit unsure if that caused the blank spots or a CUD. I was just going through a box of old coins when I found this again and thought I will post it. I have learned alot from you guys over the years! I tried to take some better pictures, it is definitely much thinner in the area of the missing clad, thus probably not getting the full impact of the strike I thought. Have a good day everyone! 20210802_165000.jpg 20210802_164932.jpg
