there is certainly a possibility that it is wood....I have petrified wood that looks just like wood, and some looks like glass. Kinda hard to say because the pics are a tad blurry for me to see them perfectly. There are other things it could be as well?

looks a little like onyx to me. Sometimes you see book ends made of it.

Lol, sorry my camera is outdated. I will try to get some decent scans. It is approximately 1.5"
 

Looks just like petrified wood to me. I have pieces very similar. It's not too clean to be petrified wood.
 

Actually that looks like alabaster rather than wood...............

probably not wood,looks like some type of banded agate or lace agate and looks like a base for some sort of small trophy.
