I only get to the beach ("the shore" for those in New Jersey) a couple times a year, so when I've gone I simply used the "beach" pre-set option on the detector. I still found it gave a lot of false signals in that mode, which was highly distracting because it gave that much-desired nickel/ring/foil sound. What do you beach regulars use for settings?

Thanks for your help!

I can't remember for shore ;D, but I think the ground setting is neutral and you have to set it to difficult. I still get some falsing in the wet sand.

yes i use neutral, sens. in man as high as you can get is,also deep on,fast off or on you decide that, trash low and i use wide open screen if not you will miss gold,

Never used an E-trac but I find the fact you have false signals very surprising. I walk off land on to the salt shore without changing a thing and my explorer is smooth and quiet. Do you ever have the same problem with wet grass? Pro coil?

You are probabaly running your sensitivity too high, especially if you are running in manual. You will be more prone to false signals in wet sand. Not all beaches are the same, some have higher concentrate of mineralisation and you will have to alter your machine to suit. What coil are you using? Bigger coils are more prone to falsing. You should also remember to noise cancel as well. In wet sand, Set your sensitivity to manual but run on low settings gradually raise you settings until you experience falsing then reduce your sensitivity slightly. Run with deep on, fast off. Low trash and in difficult. On dry sand run in neutral. good hunting seeya Neilo
